The history of TU is a history of our volunteers. Throughout 2009, we will highlight volunteers who have made TU's 50 years a success. The current volunteer highlight is below. See the list of volunteers at the left for more.
TU Volunteer Highlight
Shawn Bratt
Shawn is 29 years old and has done more for youth education than many TU members have done in a lifetime. When Shawn started at the University of Colorado, the CU fly-fishing club had been dormant for two years. He restarted it that fall. What started as a group of 10 anglers grew into a resource for students of all skills during his five years at CU. In his junior year at CU Shawn joined the board of TU’s Boulder Flycasters and helped create a standing seat for a member from the CU club. By getting the club involved with TU, Shawn was better able to tie a conservation message into the instruction of a younger generation of anglers. With TU’s Boulder Flycasters chapter, Shawn spent four years on the board and is currently in charge of running their youth programs. Shawn is in a unique position as he is young enough to have a great relationship with the kids and by virtue of his knowledge and understanding of coldwater conservation, he demands respect from each student.
