Kirk Otey

Kirk Otey

Volunteer Highlight - Kirk OteyKirk Otey of Charlotte, North Carolina has successfully served at virtually every level of TU leadership -- from banquet chair to chapter president to trustee. Kirk helped reorganize the entire grassroots leadership structure in 2005 by forming the National Leadership Council and serving as its first chairman. The NLC is now the grassroots decision making body responsible for framing TU’s conservation agenda and organizational policy decisions. It was in this role that he tapped into some of the wisdom gained during his early days as a TU member. He eventually helped to incorporate those elements into the Chapter Effectiveness Index, a survey that measures the current resources and processes chapters have to operate effectively to advance TU’s mission. Kirk was recently honored with TU’s highest individual honor, the Mortensen Award for Outstanding Grassroots Leadership.
